  • Fort Durnford, British Fort in Estcourt, Built by British in Boer war, now a museum.Open Mon-Fri  9-4
  • Spioenkop Battlefield, (Boer War), Churchill and Ghandi were at the worst British defeat -via Bergville

  • Royal Natal National Park & Amphitheatre, part of the same Drakensberg range, north of us.
  • Tugela Falls at Royal National – Second highest in the world, at 973m- only seen after 3 hour walk.
  • Winston Churchill capture sight memorial , on the road to Estcourt from Winterton at Frere turnoff.
  • Cathedral Peak and Hlalanathi – both 9 hole courses with extra 9 tees. Estcourt Golf Club is 18 holes.
  • Didima Rock Art Museum, at Cathedral Peak, has daily shows for R40 pp.  036-488 8025
  • Mike’s Pass – Drive yourself, 4x4 if wet, or be driven up from Didima Hotel, R50 pp.  036-488 8000
  • Injasuthi – Awesome Rock Pools and many walks. Guided walk to Battle cave at 8am. 036-488 1578
  • Weenen Game Reserve – various animal species incl. Rhino, Giraffe, Kudu and Eland. 036-354 7013
  • Midlands Meander – Extensive arts and crafts route on the way to Pietermaritzburg.
  • Tugela Hydoelectric Power Station is 156m underground. Transfers water to Joburg. 036-438 6250
  • Colenso Boer War Battlefield, 7 Victoria Crosses won, 2nd highest no. awarded after Rorkes Drifts 11.
